Hotel Amoun
The
Hotel Amoun is quiet
and comfortable .
Those seeking peace and tranquility in an
awe-inspiring location will find a haven here.
It is only a short climb from the hotel to the
top of Dakrour Mountain which is a fantastic vantage point. It also houses
tombs dating from
Ptolemeic and Roman times. The
large covered terrace at the front of the hotel
presents spectacular views of virtually the whole oasis capturing its
shimmering lakes, temples and mountains which lie
amongst the jungle
of palm and olive trees. In the opposite direction the
Great Sand Sea' of the
Sahara desert stretches
away as far as the eye can see.
Dakrour is the location
of' a three-day feast every October and the Amoun
Hotel is
the ideal place to
take part in the festivities and watch the annual
rituals take place. Most of the Population of Siwa comes to camp
here during these three days creating a real
party atmosphere.
The hotel has a
restaurant with an extensive menu comprising
Egyptian, European and traditional Siwan
food, and a cafeteria that is always open to
serve hot and cold drinks.
There are
facilities for bike rental as well as free
transport to and from the bus staition.
During the spring and summer months, the Amoun
Hotel is renowned as the place where people come to take sand bath cures - a therapy which entails
being covered in hot
sand, receiving a healing
massage and enjoying a specially prescribed diet, which hot herbal drinks.
Conditions such as rheumatism, arthritis,
and paralysis are treated here. Some however, come simply to enhance their general health and maintain their
youth. Experienced
staff and doctors specialise in administering of the
treatment which can last from three to seven
days.
